Beebe Schools GT Identification Procedures
- Nominations: Anyone may nominate a student for screening (teacher, parent, relative, peer, administrator, self-nomination, etc.). Nominations are accepted for grades 2-12 at any time throughout the school year.
- Permission to test: Before the screening process can begin, a parental/guardian signature granting permission to evaluate their child must be obtained.
- Screening: The screening process for each student includes the following:
- Cognitive Abilities Test
- Creativity Screening
- Renzulli Parent Inventory
- Renzulli Teacher Inventory
- Student Personal Interest Inventory
- Standardized Test Scores
- Reading Level
- Grade Point Average
- Student Portfolio of Work
- Interview and/or Observation
- Cognitive Abilities Test
- Identification: All screening data is recorded on a profile sheet. The GT Placement Committee, comprised of GT facilitator, classroom teachers, the counselor, an administrator, and the GT Director, will meet and review student information using a blind identification process, where paperwork is identified by number only; no student names. No single criterion or cut-off score is used to include or exclude a student from the program. The collective data is reviewed and a placement decision is made.
- Notification: When the GT Placement Committee has made a decision, parents/guardians are notified of the placement decision by letter. If the decision is made to place a student in the GT program, a parent/guardian must give written permission before a student can be officially placed in the GT program. Instructional staff and administration will then be notified of the placement. Students who are not placed will be kept on file and can be reviewed at a later date, if requested. If a parent/guardian has questions regarding the decision of the GT Placement Committee, they are free to contact the GT Director and discuss the decision further.
